Confirm the actual stay’s reception and registration process, complete Chinese address and arrival contact before relying on it. Hotels report accommodation registration; for non-hotel residences, the official rule requires registration within 24 hours and initial host assistance. The label “homestay” does not determine the legal category.
Ask who handles the registration
The NIA’s September 2026 guidance offers nationwide online registration for non-hotel residences through its service platform. Hotels follow the hotel reporting process. Ask the operator which branch applies to the exact property rather than relying on a generic “foreigners welcome” label.
- For a first non-hotel registration, agree how the host will assist and how you will view the completed record. If online steps fail, consult 12367 or the local public-security service window.

Send a specific pre-booking question set
- Can you receive travellers using our document type on these dates, and who handles the applicable accommodation registration? Request a practical process rather than an invented certification.
- What is the complete Chinese address, map pin, accessible drop-off point and late-arrival procedure? Which contact is available on arrival, and through what channel?
- Ask about the exact booked room: stairs/lift, step-free access, heating/cooling, private bathroom, bed arrangement, smoking/noise and recent room photos. Area descriptions cannot establish these facts.
- For children or mobility needs, explain the required arrangements and ask for confirmation before booking. Do not treat silence as acceptance.
Keep confirmation and address together
Save the provider’s confirmation, relevant cancellation terms and a Chinese address outside one app. Confirm last-mile access with the host: a lake view, old-town label or map distance does not tell you where a vehicle can stop.
- Do not include passport numbers or images in a public message, correction report or this site’s exported trip pack. Provide required identity directly through the legitimate reception process.
If the stay cannot confirm
Leave the choice pending and compare a property that can explain the actual process. On arrival, contact the confirmed provider through its known channel. This site does not confirm rooms, negotiate refunds or provide emergency accommodation.
Common questions
Does every homestay need the same special foreigner licence?
Do not use that blanket claim. The property’s real operating and registration arrangement must be checked. Our site does not certify a property or substitute for the authorities.
Are your Yunnan pictures verified room photos?
No. Site illustrations are labelled as illustrations. Area guides and existing cooperation resources do not establish a particular room, price or available inventory.
