The short answer
Choose one workable app for each essential task, then test its login, destination search and offline fallback before relying on it. A long installation list does not make you ready. Keep Chinese addresses and transport details outside the apps as readable copies.
A small task-based kit
- Maps: search your exact stay and station in the map you intend to use, such as Amap or Apple Maps where the relevant features are available. Check the Chinese name, district and entrance with your host.
- Rail: use official 12306 to inspect the date, station, passenger and ticket status. A third-party itinerary screenshot is not an issued ticket.
- Payment: use your prepared official wallet plus backup cash/card. Communication: agree with the host on a channel both sides can actually receive.
- Translation: download supported Chinese and your own language files before travel. Test a short typed phrase offline instead of assuming speech or camera modes also work.

Prepare the first transfer
For a ride-hailing app or mini-program, confirm its mainland service, account login, payment method and official pickup area. Our planner does not dispatch a driver. If setup fails, ask the airport/station official service desk or your confirmed host about a lawful alternative.
- Save the destination as Chinese text, a map reference and the host’s own arrival instructions. Each helps with a different failure.
- Keep emergency numbers and the host contact readable without unlocking a single messaging account.
Test rather than assume
- Record the device, app version, region and date of your own test. Supplier listings describe intended features; they are not our independent field evidence.
- Try a realistic search for the exact station and a Chinese address. If it returns no result, preserve the original address and ask the provider to confirm the pin.
- Review permissions and download apps only from an official source or trusted store. Do not grant access to contacts or photos merely to complete a checklist.
Common questions
Will my usual map work in China?
Check the specific feature and destination on your device. Service availability, search results and local detail differ; keep the provider-confirmed Chinese address as a backup.
Is the app selector an endorsement or booking service?
It organises tasks and official destinations. It does not guarantee an app, transact, dispatch transport or verify a host.
