Separate data, phone calls, SMS and app access. Build your device-specific plan and a practical fallback, with no claim that a checklist proves connectivity.
Your device and travel situation
Selected tasks are preparation needs, not proof that any named app or VPN will work.
Your network preparation plan
Compatibility is still unknown. Complete the device check before purchasing or installing.
Data, voice and SMS are separate. Your checklist is still to be carried out; app access and actual network performance remain untested.
Before departure
Check the exact device and unlock status
Check the model’s sales region, eSIM menu, supported bands and carrier lock. On iPhone, Settings → General → About → Carrier Lock should show No SIM Restrictions for a third-party eSIM. An eSIM menu alone does not prove package compatibility.
Follow your manufacturer and provider installation guide
Use a trusted stable internet connection, save the provider instructions, and confirm the activation start rule before installing. Do not assume every Android device has the same menu.
Mobile data, carrier voice, SMS and individual app access are separate checks. Suppliers advertise different routing; we have not tested your apps or VPNs. Download needed maps, translations, tickets and bilingual addresses before departure; keep a carrier/venue fallback.
Select the travel eSIM for mobile data. Enable roaming on that line only if its provider requires it; use the purchased plan’s APN and activation instructions. Do not enable home-line data roaming by accident.
A carrier service office can check passport registration, your phone and a local-number plan. No uniform tourist tariff or guaranteed stock is established here.
Bring the passport to an official service office; confirm its ability to register foreign documents.
Request written total cost, allowance, voice/SMS, cancellation, validity and hotspot terms; check SIM tray and unlock status.
Cost and capability need your carrier/venue’s actual quote. Not ranked as free or cheaper.
Can preserve your existing number if the carrier supports roaming in China. The included destinations, SMS, voice, data and day-pass charging rules depend on your own plan.
Ask the carrier about China coverage, incoming SMS/OTP and voice/data charges before leaving.
Confirm what triggers a chargeable day and whether a day is 24 hours or calendar-based; avoid unapproved data switching.

Useful for installation and a fallback at a known venue. Availability, login/SMS requirements, cost and application access depend on that network; it is not continuous travel coverage.
Confirm the venue’s login method and prepare a working SMS line if required.
Download tickets, bilingual addresses, maps and translation resources before leaving connectivity.
